We love hummus, and it really is quite easy to make at home! Hummus is delicious on toast, with tortilla chips, pitas, or as a veggie dip. It’s versatile too, you can add caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, or tomato basil. The variations are endless. For us? We like just the way this recipe is: lemon-y and garlic-y!
Do you like hummus? What are your favourite hummus flavours?
Homemade Hummus
(Makes about 2 cups)
2 cups (or 1 15-oz can) chick peas/garbanzo beans
1/2 cup sesame seeds
1 clove garlic, cut in half
3 Tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp salt
Drain chick peas, keeping the liquid. Place liquid, sesame seeds, and garlic in blender or food processor. Cover and blend on high speed until mixed. Add beans, lemon juice and salt. Cover and blend on high speed, stopping occasionally to scrape sides if necessary, until uniform consistency.
This can be frozen and thawed out for later use! We’re a small family, so I freeze half for later.

I love hummus I don’t use a recipie really but I know mine has Tahini instead of sesame seeds and way more lemon and garlic and tahini! I only like the origional flavour like we got in Jordan but I don’t have a food processor or blender here so I haven’t had it for a while instead I am making Muttubal which is basicly the same thing only you use baked eggplant instead of chickpeas.
Blending up the sesame seeds is basically making your own tahini! Just cheaper and easier than going to the store.
Recipe sounds great. I literally just made hummus actually. I think I prefer mine to have a little more texture than yours has, but I guess that’s a personal thing. Sounds delicious.
What do you add to yours to have more texture? I’d love to try more ways of making hummus! We love this one, but variety is great!
I can’t stand hummus! I’ve tried making it and buying it, and I just don’t like it! It’s the chick peas. Just can’t stand the texture.
Really! I can see how the texture could affect how one would like it. Someone on facebook mentioned that they do the same type of recipe but with baked eggplant instead of chickpeas! Sounds interesting.
my hummus recipe is similar, except that i add fresh parsley, olive oil, ground coriander and ground cumin. love the tangy taste of the parsley and lemon and garlic together!
That sounds really good!!
